Rise above the storm and you will find the sunshine.” – Mario Fernandez

We are most definitely in the heart of #HurricaneSzn in St. Petersburg, which means that there is no better time to be prepared than right now! The season typically lasts from June 1st until November 30th with September being the most active month for storms. Even though the Eastern Coast of Florida is in greater danger to these storms, they can still make their way to our home. As St. Pete locals, we have seen many storms come through our area, which is why we want nothing more than to share our wealth of knowledge with you. Here are some of the places you should visit and activities you must complete ensuring that you and your loved ones are protected!

Hydration is key!

If you and your loved ones are planning on hunkering down and riding out the storm, you are going to need water and lots of it! Even if you are laying low, you are going to need to drink water in order to dissolve vital minerals and nutrients, remove waste, and make sure that your kidneys are properly performing. Here are some of the best places in our area to get the water you need to thrive throughout any storm:

Do You Know Where Your Sandbags Are?

One of the simplest yet most efficient ways to keep rising floodwaters out of your home? With sandbags! They are extremely cost-efficient and can be easily stacked depending on flooding forecasts based on the area that you reside in. Wondering what locations in our area carry sandbags that you can purchase? Here are a few of our favorites:

Flood Zones in The Burg

Similarly to nearly every city around the world, there are areas that are more prone to flooding and others where flooding rarely occurs. In case you are unsure, click here to find out what the flood zones currently look like in St. Pete! The more you know about our area, the more prepared you will be if disaster strikes. As we always say, it is always better to be more prepared than underprepared. You can always store away information in your brain, however, when you are facing an environmental challenge, obtaining knowledge on a whim can be very difficult.

Ice Ice Baby

Quick fact about Florida that we would like to think you know already; it is hot. St. Petersburg is considered to be located in what is known as a “Subtropical climate,” so summer temperatures typically hover between 80 and 90 degrees. From keeping food cold to keeping you cold, having ice on-hand is crucial. It can truly come in handy, especially if you happen to run through all of your water and need just a bit extra. It can be easily melted down and consumed if measures take a turn for the worst, which we never like to see. For easy access to ice, head to these St. Pete locations!

  • Freeman Ice – 3201 44th Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33714
  • Walmart – 201 34th St N, St Petersburg, FL 33713
  • Publix – 725 1st Ave S, St. Petersburg, FL 33701

Updates in Real-Time

As we learned with Hurricane Irma, it’s great to know who has power, charging stations, WIFI, or hot coffee. We saw our community really step up as our local breweries switched to water to help. Who was out of everything and where to go now? We’ll add to this living post should the need arrive.
